Android : The king of customisation

Android is one of the most used mobile operating system.Manufacturers like Samsung,Sony,hTC,LG and many others have been using this OS to roll out new smartphones.Android is built open a modified linux kernel and that itself serves as a basis for customisation.

Android Inc. was developed by Andy Rubin and his team.Later Google bought it and made it one of the leading mobile OS with incredible amount of apps.

Android versions are named alphabetically (Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, HoneyComb, IceCreamSandwich, JellyBean and KitKat). The latest android version is 4.4.2 a.k.a KItKat.

The early versions of android didn't catch any consumer attention but the developers saw their future in it and kept working on it.Since the whole OS was an open source project everybody was able to get the required codes and was able to develop applications, widget, kernels and other stuff.

Android 2.3.x (gingerbread) was adapted by many key manufacturers and hence it became instantly popular among consumers.Andoid 3.0.x (HoneyComb) wasn't able to gather the same amount of attraction beacuse it was mainly designed for tablets.Another big release of android was the ICS (4.0.x) this introduced key changes in the UI(the new holo interface made it's debut in ICS).The next set of releases were named as jellybean 4.1.x,4.2.x,4.3.x  are all jellybean related releases. There was a reason behind naming all the 3 versions as jellybean; In all the 3 releases google mainly focused on "project butter", the aim of project butter was to provide smooth experience on the android devices.

Android KitKat

Google's latest approach is to make android run on low end devices. The so called "project butter" is replaced with "project svelte".Google mockingly replied that project butter was adding fat to the OS.With KitKat google has introduced a new runtime called ART.The ART runtime does a better job in improving the app performance and eventually makes things faster.

Google has introduced more superior google now service in kitkat and it has introduced inbuilt printing options. With 'kitkat' google aims to extend the device support to more and more devices.
