Mobile OS : What really matters ?

We have seen many technological advancements in the recent month. The processors have been upgraded to octa-cores(Exynos Octa)and of course apple’s 64-bit processors have made a new entry to the mobile industry. Even the phone memory has been upgraded to 3 GB(we've seen that in NOTE 3).Camera is reaching new heights with NOKIA’s pureview in lumia 1020 and of course the new iSight camera.Even video recording has been improved (some models of galaxy NOTE 3 features 4k recording) and recently iPhone came out with slow motion recording.

But still it all comes down to the OS.It’s the OS that makes the user experience smooth,we've seen iOS and windows phone running smoothly on a dual core processor but the same is not true for android.Let’s see a detailed description and comparison of the OS.

iOS vs WP 8 VS android ...

iOS -latest version  : iOS 7

Recently the iOS 7 was launched out of BETA stage for the iPhone 5s and 5c.iOS 7 introduces new features like Control Center, AirDrop for iOS, and smarter multitasking and a new lockscreen.iOS has also revamped it’s interface and made it more colourful. All the apps available for iOS look better on the new OS.

Windows Phone -latest version : wp 8 Lumia Black

iOS remains as one of the most stable and secure OS but it is criticized for the new colourful icons and some of it’s services like the iCloud. Some people even reported bugs on the new fingerprint technology but apple have eliminated such flaws in it's recent software updates.

Conclusion:

If you want a complete smartphone and you hate any kind of lags on your device then choosing iOS devices would be a good deal cause they are snappy. But if you want to customise the look of your mobile device by adding fancy widgets and live tiles then this OS is not for you. With iOS your mobile device is secure from most of the malware and viruses.

Windows phone is not very popular like the iOS and android but if you have used a windows device then you obviously know how cool it looks. The flipping live tiles give you adequate amount of information on the home screen. Windows phone allows you to customise it’s colour and the tiles.

But the major drawback is the lack of a Notification Center in windows phone, which will be included on the next WP 9 update. A small unread message count on the live tile leaves you clueless. Also one more drawback of windows phone is the lack of apps, android and iOS have 5 times more apps on their respective app stores.

Conclusion:

If your budget is not enough to buy an iPhone or high end android phone, then obviously windows phone is the best choice in mid-range smartphones as it outperforms many android devices in the same range. It’s fast, fluid and beautiful interface is worth considering. Also windows phone has all those apps which you require the most; Facebook, twitter, whatsapp.

Android -latest version : android 4.4 .2 (Kit-Kat)

So called “The king of customization” is one of the best Mobile OS. Since it is based on a modified linux kernel it offers greater flexibility and customization. Android is for those people who love to add their own personal touch to their handheld devices. Some people criticize android for being slow and buggy but this happens on low end hardware and highly skinned software by manufacturers like Samsung and htc etc. But the truth is stock android (provided on nexus) runs fast and smooth, but of course it falls short on some of the key features. Additional customisation ability of android is unlocked by rooting the phone.

We know that android is one of the fastest growing mobile OS with many manufacturers like Samsung, htc, Sony, LG etc. showing keen interest. The latest offering from google (android 4.4.2) brings future proof advancements and new amazing features called profiles, wireless printing and ART runtime.

At the OS level Android is robust and fairly secure. But the app distribution model and the number of root exploits that exist means that nothing is guaranteed. However with common sense you have a good chance of staying safe.

With kitkat the android developers have improved the UI and usability of android. The project "butter" was replaced by project "svelte" and the result is the latest version of android can now run on low end devices as well.

Also,In the latest version of android google has switched to "ART runtime" from "dalvik".

Conclusion:

Yes, the android OS is amazing and the app ecosystem also gives a pretty good completion to apple’s app store but when it comes to buying an android device one must not go by the specs always. The performance of all the mid-range android phones are not pretty good. Some of them might start lagging while playing an HD game and some of them might not play them at all.So when you go for an android device, you must ensure that the device has a powerful hardware and is given some special attention. Of course all the flagship android phones are the best. So think before choosing the right android.
