Apple iOS

Apple's mobile OS now known as the iOS was launched in 2007.The iOS became an instant hit among the consumers because of it's revolutionary touch interface and a huge amont of apps.

iOS was initially made for iPhone but later it's support was extended for iPods and iPads.Unlike Microsoft's Windows Phone and Google's Android, Apple does not license iOS for installation on non-Apple hardware. As of October 2013, Apple's App Store contained more than 1 million iOS applications, 475,000 of which were optimised for iPad.

The user interface of iOS is based on the concept of direct manipulation, using multi-touch gestures. Interface control elements consist of sliders, switches, and buttons. Interaction with the OS includes gestures such as swipe, tap, pinch, and reverse pinch, all of which have specific definitions within the context of the iOS operating system and its multi-touch interface.

With every iteration of iOS,a new and revolutionary feature was added,In iOS 6 apple introduced 'siri' and it became an instant hit in many parts of the world.

With the new iOS 7,apple has improved the good old multitasking system present on iPhones and iPads.Users can now check out the previews and eventually shift their task with ease.

In addition to that several new animations, control centre and iTunes radio are welcome features of the iOS 7.On iPhone 5s,apple has added the support for fingerprint scanner within the OS.These fingerprints are stored in the new A7 chip made by iOS in a secure location. With that the security of iOS is taken one step ahead of other mobile OS out there.

As of today, the iOS accounts for most number of recognised apps and the store continues to grow.

Nobody knows what the next iteration of OS has to offer as apple is quite good at keeping their work secret.Although rumours suggest that the next iOS will have support for high resolution displays.
